The top 10 (maybe USA aside, but they've qualified for more tournaments consecutively than England have... think of that before answering) are about right - England aren't a top 3 nation despite what the Sun might tell you.

Not strictly true - as USA qualified for the 1994 World Cup as hosts, and only qualified for the 1990 WC because Mexico were banned.

But I don't really care about the rankings

Well its true then isnt it?

They were at 1990,1994,1998,2002 and now 2006.

England were not at 1994, so therefore what I put was true.

By your theory England have never won the World Cup because they were hosts.

Football rankings are not worth the time and effort some people put it to them. Who finished 3rd in the 1970 World Cup? Who were the runners up in 1974? Who was the losing finalist in the 1978 and 1982 FA Cup finals? People are in the main unable to answer these questions without a bit of research as football only remembers the winners.

You get nothing for second this game is all about winning. You can talk about rankings for as long as you like but they bear little resemblance to the real world and will matter less to the winners of the World Cup.

They are 10th because they haven’t won anything since 1966. The Premiership is so exciting because it is played at a fast pace. This is done mostly with foreign managers and players with little or no benefit to the national team. In 1990 England got to the semi-finals of the World Cup. This was before the introduction of the Premier League. The influx of players may have increased the entertainment of the Premier League but it has done little to enhance the prospects of the national side. If you take the money you have to pay the piper.

All I was saying was that USA were not as strong as would be implied by their qualification record, given the circumstances behind their appearances at 1990 and 1994. And they were rubbish in 1998 - 0 goals and 0 points. But I do concede that they are much improved recently.
